Prison System Statistics

I. There are 2,000,000 inmates in the United States.

• 308,687 inmates incarcerated in State and Federal Prisons.
• 58,984 total New York inmates.
• 277,680 inmates on parole.
• 11,576 Female inmates in our State Prisons.

II. There are 850 prisons and according to the Americans Corrections Association there are approximately 6,000 Correctional Facilities of all types.

III. It Cost $80,0000 to build a cell and it cost tax payers $20,000 a year to house an inmate. There is only 500 fulltime chaplains
